Today I want to share how you can make your own DIY Cuticle Oil. This nourishing oil is made with simple ingredients that help to soften and heal dry, cracking cuticles. It also promotes nail growth and strength. That’s a win-win in my book!
I’ve always struggled with thin nails and dry cuticles that crack and peel. To make matters worse, I developed the bad habit of picking at my cuticles until they bled, making unsightly sores on the sides of my fingers. (Gross, I know). The dry, winter air only makes the problem worse.
Before making this DIY cuticle oil, I spent tons of time and money at the nail salon, trying to fix this problem. I tried it all — acrylic nails, gel nails, dip nails, but these only made my nails thinner and weaker. Plus, my cuticles only looked better for a few hours after I came home. Then, I’d do the dishes and inevitably, they’d be just as dry and sad as they were before.
Then, a couple of years ago, I decided enough was enough. There had to be a way to improve the health of my nails and cuticles that was more natural and didn’t involve spending loads of time and money. Enter, this DIY cuticle oil! When I first started using it, I was BLOWN AWAY at the improvement of my cuticles and nails. No more bloody sores on my fingers. No more thin, peeling nails ripping until they were painfully short. This DIY cuticle oil fixed it all! But don’t take my word for it, try it for yourself!
DIY Cuticle Oil Recipe
Supplies:
- Glass roller bottle or empty nail polish bottle
- Small funnel or dropper to fill your roller bottle
- 2 teaspoons of carrier oil- I love using this unrefined, cold pressed, organic jojoba oil. You can read more about the benefits of jojoba oil here.
- 20 drops of essential oils. Here are my favorites for nail and skin health:
The best part is, all of these oils are safe around children and safe for pregnant and breastfeeding mamas.
Alternatively, if you’re brand new to essential oils, or don’t own any of the ones that I’ve listed above, Plant Therapy has a blend that contains many of these oils called Silky Soft. As I’ve mentioned before, I love Plant Therapy oils! They are high quality, affordable, and third party GC/MS tested. If you want to browse their website, you can click here for $10 off your first purchase of $20 or more.
Directions:
- Take the cap and roller ball off of your glass roller bottle, and insert your tiny funnel into the top.
- Measure 2 teaspoons of jojoba oil and pour it into your roller bottle.
- Put 20 drops of essential oils into the bottom of your roller bottle. You can choose which oils to use based on what scents you enjoy, or what oils you have available.
- Replace the roller ball and the cap, and shake the bottle a bit to combine the oils.
- That’s it! You’re ready to hydrate those cuticles!

Tips for How to Use DIY Cuticle Oil
- Make several of these and keep them all over the place! Your car, your bathroom, your desk at work, next to the kitchen sink for after you finish the dishes — you get the idea.
- Use this daily for the best results! I like to put it on in the morning after I get ready for the day, and then again at night right before I slip into bed. It soaks in pretty quickly, and any leftovers get rubbed into my hands to moisturize them as well.
- When you first make this oil, you may need to roll the roller ball around a bit before it begins dispensing oil.
If you use and love this nail oil as much as I do, please come back and give it a 5 star review below!
